1. What is economic development?

Economic Development is a program that seeks to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community by creating and/or retaining jobs that facilitate growth and provide a stable tax base.

2. How does economic development help entrepreneurs?

Economic Development acts as a facilitator, leveraging public, and private sector resources that may be available in the local community, the region, and state.

3. Do I need a business license to operate my business?

A "business license" is not required for the County of Orange. However, the Towns of Gordonsville or Orange may have different requirements. Please contact either the Town of Gordonsville or the Town of Orange for additional information, if the business you operate will be located within Town Limits. Town of Gordonsville.

4. Does economic development provide assistance to existing businesses?

Yes! Orange County Economic Development (OCED) will work with existing businesses to provide the resources needed. Whether it is an expansion, retraining workforce, financing, or that worrisome pothole in the road, OCED can assist with your issues.

5. What is the Economic Development Authority and what is its purpose?

The Economic Development Authority (EDA) is an authority consisting of seven (7) volunteers appointed by the Supervisor from the specific District, as well as the Towns of Orange and Gordonsville.

The mission of the EDA is to promote balanced growth and development within the County of Orange. The EDA also fulfills all purposes and intents of the Board of Supervisors to generate new capital investments and job creation for the citizens of Orange County.
