1. What do I need to do to register myself or my child for a program?

You will need to complete and turn in a registration form. The registration will not be validated unless payment has been completed. A signed waiver will also be required. This waiver can be provided to you after the registration form has been received. You may also need to complete other forms for certain programs. When completing a registration form, it is very important that you provide at a minimum either two (2) phone numbers or a phone number and an email address. We need to be able to contact you regarding registration questions and to keep you up to date if there is a change in one (1) of our programs. Registration Form

2. Can I register online?

Unfortunately, no. We do not have online registration capability at this time. However, we are usually able to accommodate off-site registrations. Call our office at (540) 672-5435 for options. Additionally, online payment of most program registration fees can be completed through our Paymentus Service. We cannot accept credit card payments over the phone. IMPORTANT: Be sure to select the appropriate category from the "Payment Type" dropdown menu for the program for which you wish to complete payment. Select a payment type first, and the "Account Number" field will update to "Customer Name."  

Selected programs may have full online registration if offered in partnership with a third party, such as our British Soccer Camps offered with Challenger Sports.

3. Why should I pre-register for a program?

Pre-registration is important because it gives us a clear picture of how many participants we will have in a program. If we don't receive any pre-registrations, it appears as if there is a lack of interest in the program, and it may be cancelled. In the past, we have cancelled programs due to lack of registrations, only to have interested folks call after the program was scheduled to start. If you are interested in a program, we highly recommend registering as soon as you decide you or your child would like to participate because it helps make sure the program will happen. Additionally, some programs have specific deadlines, and pre-registering ensures you will not be charged any late fees.

4. Can I register and/or pay for my/my child's program at the start of the first session?

No. Unfortunately, we cannot accept registrations or payment on-site at the beginning of a program unless otherwise noted. Please come to our offices in the Sedwick Building, located at 146 North Madison Road, Suite 205, Orange, Virginia 22960, and we can handle the registration and payment here. Alternatively, if you are unable to make it into our offices, we are usually able to accommodate registrations through fax and email. Call us at (540) 672-5435 if you have any questions. To ensure the viability of a program you are interested in, please register as soon as possible.

5. How can I find out about new Parks & Recreation programs or events?

There are a number of ways to learn about our programs and events. This website actually has a couple of methods to help you stay up to date. On the Parks & Recreation department page, there is a link on the left labelled Recreational Activities. This link is separated into Adult and Youth Programs, click on the desired age group and you will find a listing of our current programs.

Another option is to check our programming calendar. This can be found on the right side of the Parks & Recreation department page.

To stay as up to date as possible, you can choose to sign up for our "Notify Me" feature. This can be found in the lower left of the Parks & Recreation department page or on the right side of the Orange County Government main page. By signing up for this feature, you can be automatically notified by email or text message whenever we add a program to our calendar.

In addition to these electronic methods, you can also find out about our programs in the Orange Review, flyers that are seasonally distributed through the schools, calling us at (540) 672-5435, or by stopping in our office in the Sedwick Building located at 146 North Madison Road, Suite 205, Orange, VA 22960. 6. Where are your offices located?

Our offices are housed in the former Sheriff's Office facility located at 11350 Porter Road, Orange, VA, 22960.

7. When is the deadline to register for programs?

Some programs have specific deadlines. These specific dates will be noted, and late fees may be applied to registrations received after the deadline. If no specific dates are mentioned, there will be a soft deadline to register for the program at one (1) week before the start date. We may be able to register you or your child for a program after this date, but it is highly recommended that you register in advance, especially since some programs only have a limited number of spots available. For programs like gymnastics, it is VERY likely that the class will fill, so don't delay. Another important reason to register early is so that we know there is enough interest in a program. A program may be cancelled if not enough registrations are received, so to help ensure the start of a program you are interested in, register as soon as possible. Registration Information

8. What forms of payment can you accept?

We can accept cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard in our offices as payment for our programs. By mail we accept checks made out to "The County of Orange." Online payment of most program registration fees can be completed through our Paymentus Service. We cannot accept credit card payments over the phone. Please note that we cannot accept checks for discount theme park ticket sales.

9. Can I pay for a program week to week or pay over time?

No, unless otherwise noted, our programs require full payment at the time of registration; payment is not accepted on-site at the beginning of a program. Some programs require monthly payments, but this cannot be made week to week or otherwise divided. In certain situations, payment plans can be arranged, but this will be decided on a case by case basis. If a payment plan is arranged, you will be required to sign a payment plan agreement.

10. Are there any scholarship programs available?

Yes, the Orange County Office on Youth offers a program called Michael's Gift as long as funds are available. This program will fund up to $100 per year, per child, with up to $60 provided at one time (these limits subject to change based upon funding). 11. What is the program cancellation policy?

We may need to cancel a program due to inclement weather or other reasons. If the schools close or dismiss early due to inclement weather, any Orange County Parks & Recreation youth program is also cancelled. If the schools remain open but we still believe that the weather warrants the cancellation of a program, you will be notified, so please make sure you provide us with contact information on your registration from. If you are wondering about whether a program is cancelled but we are out of the office, call (540) 672-5435 and listen to option 3 to hear the latest information regarding program cancellations. In general, we will make every effort to make up any missed programs, though these may need to be held on different days and at different times than the program would normally be held.

12. I don't live in Orange County; can I still register myself or my child for an OCPR program?

In most cases yes, but there is sometimes an extra fee for out of county registrations. Please contact us regarding specific programs by calling (540) 672-5435.

13. Who should I contact to reserve a park, facility, or community room?

OCPR operates and reserves Barboursville Park, near the intersection of Route 20 and Route 33.

14. Can I donate to help fund Parks & Recreation programs, facilities, or events?

Yes. One avenue to help support Orange County Parks & Recreation is to donate to the Orange County Parks & Recreation Foundation. This is a 501c3 organization with the mission of supporting programs, facilities, and events that OCPR develops. If you choose, you can donate to a specific goal. 15. Does Orange County Parks & Recreation have a Facebook Page?

Yes. A link to our Facebook page is below. While we would love for you to like us on Facebook, we do not recommend using Facebook as the only way to receive information from OCPR. There are many factors that can lead to our posts not always showing up on your timeline. The best way to stay updated is our Notify Me system. 16. What is your refund policy?

For most programs, our policy allows for a refund for missed program dates if the dates were missed due to a medical reason. For example, Susie registers for a program, attends the first class but then breaks her leg. She would be eligible for a partial refund. We do not offer refunds for other reasons, except in the event of a cancellation on our end. Some programs, especially partnership programs like discount tickets, have no refund option.
