All items may be renewed a maximum of 3 times.
The renewal period is the same as the initial checkout period.
Blu-Rays and DVDs are a one week check out and also a one week renewal.
New books, TV series and video games are a two-week checkout and a two week renewal.
All other items are a four week checkout and a four week renewal
PLEASE NOTE: The renewal due date for all items except "new" books for adults, DVDs, Blu-Rays, TV series and video games will be four weeks from the date of the renewal, not four (4) weeks from the original due date. For DVDs and Blu-Rays the due date will be one (1) week from the date the item(s) are renewed. For new books, TV series and video games it will be two (2) weeks from the date the item(s) are renewed.

The easiest way to avoid fines is to return or renew your items before they are due. We offer an e-mail reminder service that will alert you the day before items are due. Any staff member can sign you up for it at no cost either in person or over the phone. You will need to provide your library card number and an e-mail address for us to send the alert to.
We charge 20 cents per day for items from the adult collections, except DVDs and Blu-Rays.We charge 10 cents per day for items from the children's or young adult collections, except DVDs and Blu-Rays.DVDs and Blu-Rays are charged 50 cents per day.
We do not have a grace period.
Items returned in our "book drop" receptacles next to the front door of each facility will be credited to the previous day if returned before our scheduled opening time. If we are closed for a series of days such as over the Thanksgiving holiday, items placed in the "book drop" will be credited as having been returned on the most recent day that we were open. So an item returned the Saturday after Thanksgiving would be credited as having been returned on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
There is a maximum late fine for adult collection items, DVDs and Blu-Rays of $5.00 per item.There is a maximum late fine for juvenile and young-adult collection items (except DVDs and Blu-Rays) of $2.00 per item.
Once an item is 180 days overdue, the replacement cost of the item will be billed to the customer's account. At this point the item is considered lost and not overdue. Once that happens, we may not accept the item back and the charges will remain even if the item is returned. This allows us to remove items we no longer have from our catalog and replace items so that other customers may use them.

Use is free of charge. However, Library events have priority over other meeting room uses.
Repeat usage may be refused in order to allow access to all groups.
A copy of the meeting room form must be submitted to the library branch where you are seeking to use the meeting room and approved in advance by the branch manager. We also have a brief form for on the spot use of the room when it is available.
There is a $3.00 return postage charge for each item requested on ILL. Some lending libraries may charge additional fees to lend or copy an item. We pass those charges along to the end user. We will contact the requesting user in the event these charges exceed $5.00 to seek their permission before borrowing the item on their behalf.
National best practices for ILLs require that they be requested from the user's "home" library in the city/county where they reside. If you do not reside in Orange County, Virginia, we will not process your request.
The due date for an interlibrary loan item is set by the lending library and will likely differ from our library's normal policy.
To request an ILL, we need a completed request form. You may either download the form and fill it out in advance or fill it out at the library. There is a link to the form below. Interlibrary loan request form
Items returned at neighboring library systems such as Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, Culpeper Library or Central Rappahannock Regional Library may not make it back to us and may incur charges for lateness or replacement.
