Organize a Road Cleanup

Orange County strives to maintain clean roadways. To accomplish this goal, we need your support. Below, please find information related to coordinating with Orange County Litter Control to organize a volunteer cleanup, and to request supplies.

Roads Currently in Need of Cleanup

This list will be updated with roads that have been identified as needing cleanup.
  • Route 609 (Scuffletown Road) - Route 20 to Greene County Line
  • Route 644 (Ridge Road) - Route 33 to Route 609
  • Route 643 (Cox Mill Road) - Route 638 to Town of Gordonsville
  • Route 647 (Old Gordonsville Road) - Town of Orange to Route 639
  • Route 615 (Rapidan Road) - Town of Orange to Route 614
  • Route 612 (Monrovia Road) - Route 20 to Spotsylvania County Line
  • Route 629 (Lahore Road) - Route 20 to Route 522
  • Route 631 (Brick Church Road) - Route 612 to Route 20 

Steps for Coordinating a Road Cleanup and Requesting Supplies

  1. Pick a road your group is interested in cleaning up. The list above provides potential candidates, or you may pick your own.
  2. Contact the Litter Control Committee Coordinator at (540) 661-5405 to request supplies. Challenger Trash Pick Up Kits are available that contain many of the supplies needed for a cleanup.
  3. Complete your cleanup.
  4. Contact the Litter Control Committee Coordinator to report the total numbers of bags collected and road miles cleaned. The Coordinator will arrange bag pick up.

Challenger Trash Pick Up Kit Contents

The Challenger Trash Pick Up Kits were the idea of a Destination Imagination Team (the Challengers) from Orange Elementary School in March 2019.An image of the Challenger Trash Pick Up Kit duffel bag. 

They are available for check-out by volunteer groups. Contents include:

  • Nitrile Gloves - Medium & Large
  • Orange Litter Bags 

Quantity of items may vary based on the size of your group, length of the road section, and available supplies.
