The Broadband Authority was created for the purpose of facilitating the provision of affordable broadband service to businesses, governmental agencies, and the public. Access to affordable, reliable high-speed broadband, particularly in the rural geography of the County, is important for fostering economic development, improving educational opportunities, ensuring public safety, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the citizens of Orange County.
On April 26, 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authorizing the creation of the Orange County Broadband Authority. On June 8, 2016, the Orange County Broadband Authority was incorporated by the State Corporation Commission. View the Articles of Incorporation and Certificate of Incorporation.
The inaugural meeting of the Broadband Authority was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
