Personal Property Tax

Orange County levies a personal property tax on the following types of personal property:

  • Automobiles
  • Trucks
  • Motor homes
  • Boats
  • Motorcycles
  • Trailers
  • Campers
  • Business Personal Property

The tax is assessed by the Commissioner of the Revenue and paid to the Treasurer's Office. Orange County does not pro-rate personal property taxes. If you move into or out of Orange County after January 1st, you must contact the Commissioner of the Revenue. All items of personal property are assessed for the full year if they are registered with DMV in Orange County on January 1st.

Current Tax Rate

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of your obligation to pay taxes to Orange County.

After taxes are 30 days past due, collection actions such as Tax Liens, Bank Liens, delay in State Income Tax refunds and/or DMV registration may begin.

In addition to our efforts to collect, we also turn our past due taxes over to Taxing Authority Consulting Services, P.C. (TACS) to collect past due taxes. If you should receive correspondence from them, please call (804) 545-2500.
