Basic Hunter Education Course - Instructed by Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources

OCPR has partnered with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Town of Orange to host a FREE Hunter Education Course this fall before general firearms season begins. Hunter Education courses are designed to teach hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. A dedicated cadre of trained volunteer instructors works with Conservation Police Officers to train students. Since the DWR is a state agency, these classes are open for registration state-wide, and COVID guidelines may vary from other OCPR programs. Registration for this class is not yet available but is planned to open on October 24, 2021. Space will be limited and spots typically fill very quickly. We are placing this notice early to give local citizens a “head’s-up.” We want you to have the best chance to register first. PRE-REGISTRATION WILL BE REQUIRED, NO WALK-INS. When available, we will add a direct link to the registration page here. For further general information, please visit: https://dwr.virginia.gov/hunting/education/hunter-education-course/. While the class is free, ordering physical course materials may require payment of a fee. Downloadable material is available here. There is no age requirement, but please remember that participants must be able to pass a written test without the assistance of a parent or guardian.

Introduction to Archery

In our one-day introduction program, we will: introduce the sport of archery, learn range safety, learn basic shot technique, and play fun archery games.  This program is intended to introduce interested children to the sport, as such, it focuses on safety and fun, but does not delve too deeply into advanced technique.  The instructor for this program is USA Archery certified.  This program is for ages 9-13. This class will exclusively use recurve bows. All equipment will be provided during the program, and the program will take place at Booster Park on 11/13/21 from 9:30am-12 noon.  Registration is due by 11/5/21, after which a $10 late fee will be applied if space is available. Space is limited, and registration will close once the maximum number of participants is reached, even if before the deadline.
