WHAT IS THE CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY (CPA)?

The Citizens Police Academy is a program designed to enable members of the community to have a better understanding of the operations of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves.

The 10-week (3-hour evening sessions each week) program is provided at no charge and is open to Orange County residents over the age of 18, Orange County business owners, and people employed within the County.

The CPA program includes the following:
  • Tour of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office
  • Classroom presentations by Orange County Sheriff’s Office personnel concerning: Patrol Operations (Traffic, Domestic Violence, and Gangs), Investigations, Communications, Narcotics, Rights of Citizens, Court Security, Crime Prevention, Animal Control, Use of Force, Civil Process, School Resources, and TRIAD
  • Demonstrations with our K-9 and S.W.A.T. teams and motorcycle personnel

Opportunities for Participation:
This involves simulated traffic stops, a simulated building search, and a day at the firing range to learn about and to use departmental weapons.

Our sessions of the Citizens Police Academy are held in the fall with location, dates, and times to be announced in our local paper or radio.
