Pressurized Tank Recycling

Due to the Department of Environmental Quality's landfill regulations, the Orange County Landfill and Collections Centers are prohibited from accepting unwanted pressurized tanks.

Fire Extinguishers

Empty and expired fire extinguishers can be taken to one of the locations below to be recycled.

Balloon Helium Tanks

Balloon Time Recommends:

  • Wearing protective gloves and goggles.
  • Fully opening the valve.
  • Pushing down on nozzle until tank is empty.
  • Unscrewing valve nut. Removing nozzle and discard.
  • Using hammer and flat head screwdriver to lift, peel back, and discard the small disk.
  • Circling the open hole and writing "empty" on the tank.

Propane Tanks

Blue Rhino Recommends:

  • Writing "RECYCLE" on the side of the tank with a permanent marker.
  • Going to the nearest Blue Rhino display at one of the locations below.
  • Placing your old tank beside the display for Blue Rhino to pick up.
  • Please note, the propane tank does NOT have to be Blue Rhino brand to participate.
