Horseback Riding Lessons

Offered through Orange County Parks & Recreation in partnership with Ware Fox Farm. Registration includes five lessons, with a choice of participation on either Tuesdays or Thursdays (participants choose which day at registration) weekly from March 24 though April 23.  Students will progress through riding exercises designed to teach safety and control at walk, trot, cantor, and jumping; as well as groom and tack.  Classes are small group format, but lessons will be adjusted to individual skills. Equipment (including required riding helmets) and horse provided during class. The registration fee is $175 per person, and is open to ages 6+. Pre-registration is required. Space is extremely limited and the registration deadline is March 10, 2020, but classes may fill before this date.

ScienceTellers’ Interactive Science and Storytelling Program - Aliens: Escape from Earth

Orange County Parks & Recreation and the Orange County Office on Youth School Age Child Care program are partnering to bring a ScienceTellers’ interactive science and storytelling show to Orange County on April 9, 2020 at Locust Grove Primary School! Discover scientific principles through audience-driven experiments, such as: turning a liquid into solid “worms” through a chemical reaction, launching a potato into the air using Boyle’s law, making a flying rocket using common household items, and transferring energy between matter to create a “rainstorm.” Don’t miss this action-packed, educational alien adventure using science experiments as special effects. It’s totally out of this world! This program requires pre-registration by 3/27/20. Children who are registered participants in the OOY School Age Child Care program may attend this program for free (must inform child care site manager of intent to attend by deadline). In that case, the child(ren) MUST BE PRESENT AT THEIR CHILD CARE SITE THE DAY OF THE PROGRAM to attend for free. Those not participating in the childcare program (or those who will not attend child care that day) may attend by registering through Orange County Parks & Recreation. The fee in that case is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child from the same household. Transportation is not provided for children outside of the OOY Child Care program.

LGPS, LGES, and LGMS Guided Painting Classes

Orange County Parks & Recreation is hosting afterschool guided painting programs at LGPS, LGES, and LGMS in April. The LGPS class will be held on April 16, with students painting a picture of a raccoon. The LGES class will be held April 23, and students will paint a picture of a penguin.  The LGMS class will be held April 30, and students will create a picture of a wolf. While they are guided painting classes; students will incorporate their own artistic touches, making the final product a truly unique work of art. Classes last 2 hours, and the fee for either class is $30, which includes materials. These classes are intended as afterschool programs at their respective host schools. Students from other schools in the same grade range as the host school may register and attend, but transportation is not provided. Registration must be completed no later than the Friday prior to the class date.
